Students are required to attend weekly tutorials and band practices.  These are usually held before school, after school or at lunchtime.

Students in the band have many opportunities to perform at school functions both in school and out of school time.

The cost for participation in the Band Program is $140.00 for each term.  The cost includes hire of instrument, small group tutorial instruction, band practice and music.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking has become an integral part of the many activities we offer at Yowie Bay Public School.  It gives every child from Kindergarten to Year 6 an opportunity to develop their confidence and skills in public speaking and is part of the English Syllabus.

Class competition winners compete at Stage level which in turn culminates in our Yowie Bay Speak Off.  The successful students at this level proceed to the Zone and District competitions held in the Sutherland Shire District.

Recorder Program

Students have the opportunity to develop music skills in preparation for participation in the Band Program.

All students in Year 2 and Year 3 participate in the program. Students also require a recorder book.

Students have the opportunity to participate in the Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival and school concerts.

Wakakirri Dance and Drama Eisteddfod

Wakakirri is an Aboriginal word meaning Dance and Drama.  This Eisteddfod is an opportunity for a group of students to present dance and drama through story and perform to a wider community audience.  It is a powerful tool to develop students’ talents and expertise.  Most importantly it is an invaluable opportunity to enhance self esteem, cooperation and team work.

Students in Stage 3 are given the opportunity to participate in this Eisteddfod. In 2006 Yowie Bay School won the state competition with the item The Indian in the Cupboard and in 2007 the school received a silver award (second) and in 2009 we received a silver award (second).
