Parents and Citizens Association (P&C)

 The Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) generally meets Week 3 and Week 8 of each term at 7.30pm in the Staffroom.  This association is a vital component of the school community.  Meetings are an opportunity to meet other parents and to participate in projects of importance to the school.  A detailed Principal’s Report is always included in the agenda.  The P&C supports programs for the maintenance and improvement of the school and for attaining educational resources.

All parents are invited to attend our P&C Meetings which are publicised in the Newsletter.

Parent Participation

We believe at Yowie Bay School that parents are partners in their child’s learning.

Students get a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction from seeing their parents in the school.  Your interest, enthusiasm and involvement carries over to promote positive attitudes in your child.  Parents can share their time and talents in many activities connected with the school’s learning programs and by helping to look after the resources.  Parents can assist in sport programs, reading programs, curriculum and fund raising committees, computing, school banking, library, the canteen and in many other ways.  Please ask your child’s teacher or the Principal how you can become involved.

 All parents who assist at school in any way are required to complete a Prohibited Employment Declaration and are requested to sign on either in the classroom or office and wear a visitor’s badge.

Parents Entering School Grounds

At Yowie Bay we value the extensive partnership and support we receive from parents in the school.  Parents are always encouraged and welcome in our school.  Without the help of parents we would not be able to provide the programs and activities we have to offer.  There are, however, certain expectations that parents are expected to adhere to, to ensure the safety, wellbeing and privacy of students attending school.  Please note the following guidelines and expectations.

  •  Parents are welcome to accompany their child/children into the school grounds before the school bell.
  • Parents who are working in the school or in individual classrooms are required to sign attendance registers which are located in the office, the library, the canteen and in individual classrooms.  This is a requirement of the Occupational Health and Safety Directorate of the Department of Education and Training.
  •  Parents who need to speak to or deliver something to their child at recess or lunchtime must first sign in and seek permission from the office staff or the Principal.
  •  Parents are requested to wait for their child/children outside the school gates at 3.00pm dismissal time.

Parents are not permitted to:

  • enter classrooms when there is no teacher in the room;
  • accompany their child to the silver seats when the music is playing or the bell has gone;  or
  •  speak to another child in the school grounds regarding school incidents or reprimand a child over an alleged misdemeanour.
  • Parents who are concerned about a school incident should direct their enquiries to a teacher or the principal.  All parent enquiries are always followed up and parents are always informed of the outcome.  Only staff or the principal have the right to question students about classroom or playground incidents.

All students need to feel safe and secure in their school environment and these guidelines are necessary and in place for this assurance.

Parents who do not adhere to these guidelines could face being prohibited from entering the school grounds by the principal under the Enclosed Lands Act.
